About the Event
You're invited to enjoy chocolate from "Tree to Bar," an educational quided tour of everything there is to know about chocolate, including growing cacao trees, harvesting and post-harvest processing of cacao beans, all the way to an extensive tasting of the finished product everyone loves.
Our 2-2.5 hour guided tour is especially fun for fruit and flower lovers as we stroll through the farm, stopping to taste the tropical fruits that are in season. You'll also taste our Farm's acclaimed "Kahalu'u Gold" light floral honey, plus admire dozens of exotic tropical plants such as our rare red and white torch gingers, parrot's beak and lobster claw heliconia.
Along the way, your guides will share our farm's vision for creating sustainable diversified agriculture on O'ahu and share the long agriculture history of this land to include many of the original "canoe crops" brought to Hawai'i by the earliest voyagers. When we reach the cacao orchard, we cut open a ripe chocolate pod and pass it around for everyone to sample.
We then move into our chocolate tasting tent, where you sit comfortably in the shade while we explain the post-harvest processing of cacao. As you may know, dark chocolate is actually a health food, and your guides explain its antioxidant and other health benefits, as well as discuss how chocolate is made.
Bring your own after-tour snack to enjoy at Farm picnic tables! (Please bring your own water, utensils, cups, and napkins – none will be provided)
